So I read the blog about the foul call and that the season could be over. Hold your horses, its not so bleak. Realistically, we will make the tourney if we get to 20 wins. Beat Houston, sweep the Oregons and Washingtons and we would be at 18 wins. That means we need 2 wins from the Cal schools or ASU or if not, then a possible win in the PAC-10 tourney would get us to 20. Now, with us beating Gonzaga on a neutral court (America West Arena) and a win over Kansas, we have a decent out of conference resume. Our road record of 0-6 hurts a lot, thats why I hope we can win 2 in the Washingtons and we are setting up for some success. Then if we could beat ASU at ASU, we would be in.
Now to the ASU dilemma. Have you guys noticed how we have a team thats almost identical to ASU. Budinger is pretty much a right handed Harden that can jump higher. Wise is a quicker point guard than whitey on ASU. And Hill is a better version of Pendergraph (if thats how you spell it?). Then the rest are a bunch of scrubbers that I dont know the names of. So why are we losing? Well we dont have Herb Sendek. This has re-affirmed my belief that great coaches in college make a huge deal. We need a great coach. I cant really think of one right now, but I am starting to wish we kept O'Neill, because we would be better. I hate our coach, whose name I can never remember, and you can blame him for UofA not having as much success as ASU.
Also we have Horne. Can we trade our coach and Horne as a packaged deal to get Sendek from ASU?

I can't believe I am doing this but I'm going to agree with Phil on multiple points. We are built like ASU. They have a much better coaching staff. As my dad has said, you don't lose this many close games if you are well coached. We do need a good coach. And we can still make the tournament if we seize the next 5 games.
ReplyDeleteAs usual Phil has overlooked a few things.
1. We get the Washington's at home which could improve our chances of winning the next stretch of games.
2. We are running out of gas. Hill looks tired. He, Wise and Budinger have played 40 mins every night and you can't dig yourself out of a hole with a tired team.
3. It is really difficult to have sweep weeks in the Pac-10. I doubt we can beat the Oregon schools in 4 straight games.
4. Houston will not be an easy game. We have been totally demoralized by that late call. If we don't come out with fire on Friday the Cats are done.
