How far can one shooting guard take a team? In my lifetime I have seen quite a few talented shooters in college. Casey Jacobsen, Trajan Langdon and J.J. Redick come to mind. In college basketball a shooter can be the best player on a team. In the pros I can only think of one shooter that dominates (Michael Redd).
I have watched Stephen Curry a few times this season and I like everyone else was amazed by him in the NCAA Tourney last year. I am consistently impressed by how quickly he can get off a shot. He really only needs one move to get some space and his moves aren't even that impressive. Often they don't work and he just steps back further than the defender is willing to defend him and he buries a jumper. Last night against West Virginia he started cold but was still able to dominate the game by dishing out 8 assists in the first half.
Which brings me to my question: Is Curry different from his pure shooter relatives stuck on the end of NBA benches?
If you think he is different should we be betting on him in Vegas?
Thoughts...
He won't be good in the NBA you have to weigh more than 100 pounds, at least that is how I feel about it, he is a really good college shooter though.
ReplyDeleteI think the difference with him between those three other guys is that he can handle the ball and has a great IQ, I mean you have to have a great IQ when youve got an 8th graders body and you can put up 44 in college. Im thinking Steve Kerr, anybody with me?
