Thoughts from the Weekend

Watching football this weekend I was struck by how much talent the Cardinals and Cats have on their squads. They might not be coached very well but at least we have players that have actual skill. Larry, Q, 9-0, Ricky Ellmore, Brooks Reed and Grigsby; all give you the confidence that they are going to do something good to change the course of the game. Grigsby may be as fast and talented as Joe McKnight. McKnight may have won the game for the Trojans on Saturday evening but Grigsby put on as impressive a show in Tucson. If you were to switch their places I think they would have had identical performances.

Yes there are many question marks but after watching the d-backs all year (with the exception of dan haren) it is nice to know that we have more talent than the other team at key positions.

The Cardinals, predictably, blew the game on penalties and a general feeling of laziness on the offense (do we miss our Offensive Coordinator that badly). I realize that our teams have played some bad teams but the Niners are up and coming and Central Michigan went on to beat the third best team in the Big 10.

We may not have the best record at the end of the year but at least we have talent.

Other thoughts on the weekend:

Wasn't USC's drive against OSU strikingly similar to the drive against Notre Dame from a few years ago?

The Pac-10 dominates the Big-10 (SC over OSU, Oregon over Purdue, CMU over MSU (arizona better by the Geometric Property, CPCTC). It will be the responsibility of Cats to keep up this trend when they travel to Iowa.

Houston over Oklahoma State???!? Really?

How much of the line judge's reaction to Serena Williams threats racially based? Just a thought.

I don't care that Wilson got a personal foul on that hit in the first quarter...that was awesome.

Jimmy Clausen is the real deal and Rich-Rod's offense has finally arrived in Ann Arbor (probably all the extra practice).

Kurt Warner looked bored all game. Perhaps the game interfered with his plans to get the early bird special at the Mimi's.

  1. racially biased? are you stereotyping because she was asian and asians dont like black people! thats ridiculous, that would be like me saying serena is way ghetto and crazy because shes black.

  2. I wish I could say Grigsby is as fast as McKnight. Don't get me wrong, he's shifty as balls and has the quicks to break plenty of tackles...but, as fast? Grigsby's a 4.6 guy whereas McKnight's a true 4.4 burner. I doubt McKnight gets caught on the 94 yard rush Grigsby had.

Gotta love that Grigs is holding onto the ball so far and is running more north-south. I've often seen coach Litrell harping comments of moving upfield while Antolin/Nwoko is on the field.

  4. I was actually thinking about this a lot and Im a bit upset hearing Mcnroe saying you cant make that call. Actually its a rule, and you can make that call. Whats the advantage you might ask, well whats the advantage of having a toe a millimeter over the three point line? It doesnt make the shot any easier, but it counts as two points. But you know what, it might make it easier. What if I didnt have to worry about being on the line when I shot a three? That would make the shot easier. Thats why you need to enforce rules like that no matter what the circumstance. And even more so, she got called for it a few times. Learn to adjust. Hate to bring it back to basketball again, but you adjust to how refs call games. Especially somebody like Serena who should be a champion, thats just horrible play and shows the insecurity and frustration she had all night. Less partying with Common and more practice. Women are starting to get more physical, and that gap is closing on the William's sisters. It isnt so much easy for them. Im not saying either, actually I am saying.
