I don't know how many of you saw the Hall of Fame ceremonies yesterday but I was struck by how offensive and off-putting Michael Jordan's speech felt. Maybe it was because he followed up Jerry Sloan, whose speech was moving and humble, but Jordan seemed to want to settle scores without a trace of magnanimity. Check out this excellent piece from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports that succinctly sums up the tone.
Thinking of the end of Jordan's and Favre's careers makes me worried about our current athletic phenoms. Does one have to be a selfish, vindictive, asshole to be the greatest. What will Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and Lebron James' induction speeches sound like?
