Manny's Back

Early last May the Dodgers were facing an uncertain future without their best hitter Manny Ramirez. I enthusiastically blogged that the steriod suspension may be exactly what the D-Backs needed to take the divison. I asked how many games back we thought they would be when Manny returned. Well the results are in and they are depressing.

When Manny left the D-backs were 8.5 games behind the Dodgers. They are now 18.5 games back. They have the second worst record in baseball. They lost 2 of 3 to the team with the worst record, the Washington Nationals. Their ace, Brandon Webb, still hasn't pitched a game and is currently traversing the country getting second and third opinions on his season ending arm injury. They lead the league in errors. Among these miscues was one of the most embarrassing plays I have ever seen by a major league team, they allowed Eric Aybar of the Angels to score on a bunt by committing two consecutive errors. Mark Grace called it a little league home run. Tyler and I called it a cheat code home run because the only time we had ever seen a player touch all the bases on a bunt was when we use to put in a home run cheat code on our playstation. Later in that same series against the Angels Gary Matthews stole home.

Meanwhile the Dodgers have soared.

We are terrible...can it get any worse?
