Bubble Burst?

When the Athletic Department decided to schedule Lute Olson Night during Thursday evening against Cal, they must have thought that it would be a joyous pairing. Honoring Olson's 25 seasons by watching the Cats qualify for their 25th trip to the dance.

Apparently the decision makers for this event were blinded by our home court record or perhaps they are the only optimists left in this economic recession because when I heard it was Lute Olson night I thought, "shit, we are saying goodbye to an era in the same night that the streak comes to an end."

As I watched the video montage of past Olson/Wildcat glory I kept thinking this is it we are done and we will never be like this again. Cal proved me correct by hitting 16/30 three point shots. Included among these long distance daggers, was Jerome Randal's heaves from nearly half court and two threes by a guy who had hit one all year.

Yes we got some poor calls down the stretch but we here at the ASD have been calling this as a loss for most of the season. Our defense can not stop this Cal team.

Our only chance of making the tournament now is to win 3 of our next 4 games. We have to make a long run in the pac-10 tournament. Fittingly, this post-season tournament was something that Olson despised. Now, in the post-Olson era it is our only hope.
