Last week, when I was freaking out about the Suns playing the Spurs, my first key to victory was bench production.
I BELIEVE I HAD THAT ONE RIGHT!
I listened to the game last night while driving from Santa Barbara to Bakersfield (We are here for Mother's Day and also so Becky can dragoon her relatives into making wedding decorations and other things). The radio broadcast of the feed was the San Antonio announcer, Bill Schoening, because they were the home team. Schoening has a unique way of describing the away teams shot attempts. It goes something like this...
NASH WORKING THE DRIBBLE IN THE RIGHT HAND ON TOP. GOES AROUND A STOUDEMIRE SCREEN PASSES OFF TO THE RIGHT WING FOR RICHARDSON. 3 POINT SHOT...and that is 3 more for the phoenix suns.
It is like he actually hates mentioning that we have made a shot. I knew that we scored when the radio call became nearly silent. So when I thought my radio feed had gone dead in the 4th quarter every time Goran Dragic had the ball I knew we were doing well. I later got to see the highlights on Sportscenter and my god what a performance.
I have been saying all season that the Suns bench dominates. The opposing team seems to relax when Nash and STAT sit and they shouldn't because our bench is fearless and loves to run and shoot. We seem to expand the lead or cut the deficit every time they are on the court.
As we look forward in the playoffs the bench will remain the key. Both the Cavs and the Lakers have no bench. The Magic, however, do. We should become big fans of Kobe and Lebron because they alone can not beat the Suns and our explosive 2nd team.
